Congratulations on your enrolment!
Your username format
Your username will differ based on whether you are enrolled at Whitireia or WelTec:
- Whitireia Students: Your username is your student ID number. For example, 2212345.
- WelTec Students: Your username follows the format of your preferred name followed by your last name and a number. For example, if your name is John Smith, your username might be john.smith01.
New students
Once you are enrolled to study, you will receive an email with your new Whitireia or WelTec student email address, username and initial password. This email will be sent to the personal email address you provided in your enrolment application.
1. Find the email in your inbox
- The email will be from either no-reply@weltec.ac.nz or no-reply@whitireia.ac.nz
- The subject line will be Student Account Created
If you haven’t received an email containing your login information, contact the ICT Service and they will provide these details for you.
2. Activate your account
Before accessing course material and online study resources, you must update your initial password. You can update your password in one of two ways:
- When signing in to an on-campus computer, you'll be prompted to update your password.
- Alternatively, you can update your password online. Learn how to update your password online here
3. Register for Self-Service Password Reset
For added security, your password expires every 90 days. Register for Self-Service Password Reset to quickly recover your account when needed. Learn how to register here
Returning students
If you have studied with Whitireia or WelTec before, you can use the same student email, username and password that you previously used.
If you have forgotten these details, contact the ICT Service Centre, and they will reset your password and help you access your account.
Current students
Forgotten password / account locked
- If you have previously registered for Self-Service Password reset, you can reset your password or unlock your account yourself here
- Otherwise, contact the ICT Service Centre and they will reset your password and help you regain access.
Change your password
If you know your current password, you can change it in one of two ways:
- Sign in to an on-campus computer and press ALT+CTRL+DELETE keys together, you'll see an option to change your password.
- Alternatively, you can update your password online by signing into account.microsoft.com with your Whitireia or WelTec email address and current password.
Overseas students
If you are studying from outside New Zealand (excluding the Cook Islands), please reach out to the ICT Service Centre for assistance in activating your account.
Planning to travel overseas during your studies?
Ensure you register for Self-Service Password Reset before your departure to prevent access issues.
If you are traveling to the USA, please contact the ICT Service Centre to address additional security measures and ensure continued access.
School of Information Technology (SoIT) students
On-campus computers that are located in SoIT labs require a separate username and password to access. The school will provide you with your SoIT lab login information. If you cannot access these computers, please contact your tutor for assistance.
SoIT computer labs are located at Petone Campus, Tower Block, Level 5 and 6.
Password Requirements
To keep your safe, we need you to meet these requirements when creating a password for your Whitireia or WelTec account:
Passwords must
- Be at least 8 characters long
- Contain at least one UPPER CASE letter Contain at least one lower case letter
- Contain at least one number or symbol ! @ # $ %
Passwords cannot
- Contain your name
- Contain your student ID number
- Contain your date of birth
- Be easy to guess like Password! or Welcome123
